Dorico Play...odd things happening

Hello everybody,

I’ve been working on a project for a few hours, and just entered the PLAY tab to alter some playback balance issues. It’s a full orchestral score plus rhythm section. For some reason, none of the sliders, or mute buttons, etc., are making any difference to volume or anything, except that the very first instrument on the score (alto sax) seems to be controlling master volume!

Any ideas if this is a bug, or if I’m missing something obvious?

Thanks

Are you using NotePerformer? In that case, yes, that is normal and you should be doing the leveling in the NotePerformer editor window.

Thank you for your answer - very kind. Do you know where I find that? Oddly, when I was using NP3 on a project a few months ago, I swear that I used the Dorico mixer controls…?

Is there a reason why it has to be separate?

Thanks,

Daniel

See the red circled button, click on that e-button and the NP editor window will open.

The reason is, that NP only offers one stereo output for each plug-in instance.

Many thanks again - all understood!

Just further to this, is there any way of adding FX to a NP channel…for example, I want to change the electric guitar sound to a distorted sound using the Steinberg Amp Simulator?

Daniel

I think you can tinker that together. First, add an NP instance just for the guitar, then add an effect channel to the Dorico mixer and into the effect channel you insert the distortion effect. In the NP-instrument channel you then simply connect the effect send to the newly created effect channel and with the send gain knob you decide how much signal shall go into the effect bus.
Does my explanation make any sense to you?
