I can no longer get Dorico to playback. When it launches, the program says that I need to load Halion SE and Groove Agent SE. I have reinstalled both, plus I have full versions of both Halion SE and Groove Agent. This problem started with the upgrade to Dorico 5. I am attaching the Diagnostics, in the hope that the team can help me solve this problem. Thanks. Running latest version on a MacBook Pro M1, Ventura.

It looks like it’s the content for HALion Sonic and Groove Agent SE that’s missing, rather than the instruments themselves.
In SDA, choose Dorico Pro 5 from the Dorico category on the left, then install HALion Sonic Selection - Content (recommended) and Groove Agent SE 5 - Content (recommended).
Thanks for replying. Actually, I reinstalled the content for both before I sent this report. And why isn’t Dorico recognizing my full versions of both? I just reinstalled the content again, but the problem persists…I still get the error message saying the content for both is missing.
Where is the content supposed to live on a Mac?
could it be you installed (the libraries) in a non-default location on your drive and dorico can’t find it? e.g. maybe you installed it on a different partitioned or another backup drive etc.
see:
If you run Steinberg Library Manager, do you see any errors or warnings related to that content?
Chances are the issue is that the permissions for the files themselves, or perhaps the folder in which the files are located, are incorrect, so Dorico’s audio engine cannot read them.
Hi @RorK , the content file’s default location is
/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Content
Note that the Library folder is not the one from your home directory but hidden in the root of your system drive.
Do you have full access to that folder and all contained subfolders and files?
Yes, I do have full permission.
But your question led me to discover that there are two different Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Content paths. One is tied to my root Macintosh directory, the other to a subdirectory with my username. Most of the content is in the Macintosh root, but there are mostly empty folders in the subdirectory version of the Library with my user name.
A side note, when I installed the content as directed, it just placed it into the Downloads folder and did not move it to a directory in that main drive location.
The weird thing is that I am not having any content issues with my Cubase setup, it’s just happening in Dorico, so I’m a little hesitant to move things around too much without checking with you guys first.
So, my question is:
Should I just move the new Halion SE and Groove Agent SE content from my Downloads folder, mixing it into the respective VST Sound folders for Groove Agent and Halion at the Macintosh/Library/…location? When I look at the existing content in those locations, it seems to be incomplete.
But why isn’t Dorico recognizing my full versions of both programs, which appear to be completely installed? It looks like it’s the SE versions that are causing trouble.
I’m attaching some screenshots of what’s going on, in the hope that that will help you help me…thanks for your assistance!
SCREENSHOTS: I’m using the dual pane Commander browser: the left side shows what’s in my Downloads area from the recent content installs from SDA. The right side is the the content area in Library/Application Support…etc.
Thanks again for your help! Much appreciated.
Hi @RorK , I’ve sent you a private message via this board, please check.
