Please add the following features:
Rest + Rest Length Conditions
Please add a condition that looks at whether a rest follows a note AND the length of the rest. There are several unique reasons for this. Use case 1) Staggered 8th notes and 8th rests (note-rest-note-rest-note-rest) are often treated like a staccato or a longer staccato. Use case 2) For strings, consider the bow stopping on the string vs letting it ring… When I switch from Beethoven’s 5th to 7th, some passages are no longer accurate, and only would be accurate if there’s some form of condition. Use 3) some libraries have sustain/legato repetitions that have to be selected as a separate technique.
Orchestra balancing (like poly instr. voice bal)
Flute, Oboe, Violin I all have the melody… but get drowned out by other instruments. A “balanced” sample library only gets you so far… because even if all players read mf on the page… we adapt to each other and let others take the lead. We take turns standing out vs blending.
Note: thank you for making Dorico amazing. I’ve bought every version to support it, but couldn’t justify switching for years. I’ve used StaffPad for 4 years now, but based on features in the last two version of Dorico, I’m switching and not looking back. This isn’t just a remarkable piece of software. It’s a contribution to music that I believe is and will be more far reaching than most realize. It’s an extraordinary achievement, to say the least.
If anyone is interested… I redesigned the Spitfire Symphonic series w/ hundreds of changes, 25 modulators carefully balanced to each other, consolidating dynamics / technique bloat, extending the musical functionality of the library… basically to make it behave like V-winds or AV, be live playable, but built for Dorico too. Here’s a mock-up using my template. It lacks percussion, harp, piano, and celeste for now. There’s still some dynamic and legato work to do… but 95% of this is using “natural” (or natural + a note length condition) for playback. I got the score from Musescore’s site, so take it with a grain of salt (as it seems most scores uploaded there… vary in quality). I share this mock-up just to say… I’m quite impressed with the fact that this score is being performed by Dorico in an out-of-box state, no Noteperformer or anything like that. I haven’t edited a single dynamic marking or velocity. I added staccatos to the opening flute notes and 3 slurs, but that’s it.
