Dorico Playback

Crossing from Finale. Today.
Everything installed but no sounds on playback.
If i click on the “e” (show instrument), the error message says “No Licence Found”.
I have installed HALion Sonic 7.1.0 and HALion Sonic Selection - Content from the drop down list. In fact I just clicked “select ALL”

I have been trying to get this to work for 3 hours now.

I uninstalled everything and started again with no success.
And help would be gratefully accepted

Please specify operative system (macOS / Windows).
Have you installed everything via Steinberg Download Assistant?
Have you restarted your machine before first launching Dorico?

Thank you.
Microsoft Windows 11 Home Single Language (64-bit)
I restarted.
I’m trying to use an XML file imported from Finale 27. I keep getting the “No Licence” error message.
Yes, I imported everything using the Steinberg Assistant. Two times now.

How does your setup in Play mode look like?

This is a sample for HALion Sonic on one track, you need to define the instrument on VST and MIDI tab.

It looks like that. But if I click the “e”, it says “no license found”

Ok, can you please start the Activation Manager and see if everything shows “Activated” for your licenses?

Dorico Pro 5 “Activated”
That’s all

I appreciate you help with this.
I can play the “library” files that come with the programme.
Maybe it’s something to do with the XML file

Have you installed the “full” HALion by mistake?

In Preferences > Play, check that “HALion Sonic” is the preferred HALion Plug-in, and then re-apply the Playback Template.

HALion Sonic is the free VST player that comes with Dorico; Steinberg has a ‘pro’ level version that requires its own licence.

Mine just says “HALion” not “HALion Sonic”

Maybe that’s it?
But I just chose “Select All” at the beginning.
Maybe I’ll uninstall everything and start again.

Ok, that is the problem. “HALion” is the full featured sampler that requires a separate license. You need to look for “HALion Sonic”, which is the included player for the VST instruments

No, no need to do that. If you installed everything already it is just a matter of changing the setting in Play mode.

there is no HALion Sonic on my dropdown list.
I see HALion Sonic IS install on my ADD/REMOVE programs list.

That would be strange. Did you follow the complete route to the instrument?

  1. Select Steinberg

  1. Select Synth

  1. now you should see “HALion Sonic” in the list

now it just says !!HALion!!

Yes. That’s it. Thank you.
Probably I can get it to work now.
The thought of learning Dorico after 20 years using Finale is daunting and to be honest, I’m still in shock.
But in will be an exciting journey.
Thank you again.

You’re welcome and enjoy Dorico.
