Hello Dorico team,
Something happened with Dorico?! Everything was fine until recently. Now it crashes even before the Dorico loading dialog appearance.
Here is the dump file: Dorico3.5.exe.15280.zip (431.2 KB)
I’ve noticed that only Dorico crashes. I can start the VSTAudioEngine without any issues and it appears as normally working in the Process Explorer.
I’m running both Dorico and the AudioEngine as Administrator, the e-Licenser App, too.
I’ve passed the crash log on to the team and will come back to you once I have more information.
If you’ve recently installed any new applications or utilities, particularly anything that integrates deeply with the Windows shell, it might be worth experimentally uninstalling it to see if it makes a difference.
Hi Daniel,
Thank you very much for the reply!
I solved the issue by just restarting the PC. Now everything works as expected.
But the strange fact is that Dorico worked well earlier. I closed it (without restarting the computer) few hours later I decided to start it again, but no luck.
I did nothing on the computer during the period when Dorico was closed.
I hope the team will be able to find what was the cause of the crash!
This happens to me with some frequency. I have to open the Windows Task manager and stop the Dorico process there before I can open the program . No idea why this happens, and of course it should not happen, but the Development Team is aware of the problem.
Derrek hello,
I hope the dump file will help them to investigate the issue!
If you have Dorico 3.5.exe.(number).dmp files, attach and share them with the team.
This is the location where you could find them: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\CrashDumps
Hi Daniel,
Today I’ve got Dorico crashes again. This time after I started the PC for the first time, and then tried to launch Dorico.
In the zip archive you will find 3 dump files: Dorico3.5.exe.5464.zip (1.3 MB)
I hope they will give more details about what makes Dorico to crash!
Again I had to restart the computer in order to fix the problem.
I asked Paul to look into your previously-reported crash, and he said that the crash was caused by the file that Dorico uses to prevent a deadlock when accessing some of its cached data files had not been cleaned up on a previous run of the application. I imagine that is what has happened here, too.
(where will be an identifier unique to your system) and delete the file you find within. That should allow Dorico to start up again correctly.
As to why this file isn’t being cleaned up automatically, I guess Dorico is not quitting cleanly some of the time – perhaps due to issues with the eLicenser, since I know you’ve had some problems with that on your system.
Hi Daniel,
Thank you very much for the reply!
Yes, you remembered correctly that I’m having issues with the newest e-Licensers, so the only one the works fine here is 6.11.10…
I deleted the CachedFileDataProviderManager file, and started Dorico again. I’ve noticed that after closing Dorico it doesn’t delete it, but then I can start the app normally again.
Something makes me to think about temp files, Windows related process, or directly with the e-Licenser. I’m telling that because after rebooting the PC Dorico starts working properly, no matter that the CachedFileDataProviderManager is not deleted.
I hope the new files could show something else!
