Dorico SE 5.1.51 Popovers don't work

MacOs Sonoma running on Macbook Air M1

The popovers do not work at all. Trying to use the right toolbar - clicking on the popover icon (in write mode and input selected) - nothing happens. Clicking on the first tools icon also does nothing.

Any ideas, anyone, please?

Cheers,

Popovers have nothing to do with the panel - the exact opposite, I guess. EDIT It turns out you can choose to use popovers from the panel!

Case in point: here is how to use the Dynamics popover.

So, the manual is just wrong. On the right column, the second icon (according to the manual) is for popovers. That’s just rubbish then?

Nope, using it on a MacBook, as mentioned already. The icon exists, the manual refers to it - it does nothing.

If the Notations toolbox is set to “popovers” (the keyboard icon) then the buttons open popovers.

However, most of the time you’ll need to have first selected something in the music - to tell Dorico where to open the popover.

If that’s not working for you, can you say a bit more about the exact steps you’re following and your setup - do you have multiple monitors, for example?

Oh! I’ve never noticed (nor needed) that before!

It came from the iPad version …

Same!

In notation mode, a note is selected, the icon does nothing. I’ll see if I can find keyboard shortcuts to do the same.

Could you share a video showing what you’re doing in your screen? Are you just clicking the popover button at the top, or are you then clicking the button in the toolbox that corresponds to the popover you want to open?

As I say, the button does nothing; others open up a toolbox with elements to choose from.

What should normally happen (and happens on my system with Dorico Pro) is selecting the note and clicking a popover button on the right causes the dynamics popover to appear directly above the note.

I’ve drawn arrows to show the sequence of events and circled the dynamics popover.

You aren’t seeing the popover appear above the note?

Correct

What happens when you select the note and press Shift-D for the dynamics popover - does the popover appear then?

(In asking that I’m trying to ascertain if it is only an issue with the popover toolbar on the right or whether it also happens when you call up the same popover the normal way with the hotkey)

How do you set the notations toolbox to ‘popovers?’ None of them are working now.

You do realise this is SE I am using?

See paragraph 2 of the SE manual:

Note: Popovers are only available during note input or when at least one note/item is selected in the music area.

Are you doing the same as I am here?
