i’m new on dorico and I downloaded Dorico SE. I’v installed expression map from straight ahead sample and i watched their video. My expression map is ok. But I’v tried ornement with the keys shift+O. Some of them works (like shake or scoop) but some others not like marcato or staccatissimo. don’t know if it’s SE version or a problem. By the way with shift+d i see some of key switches do not work also. As a newbie I don’t know how you link a key switch to a specific symbol of dorico writing mode. And also I didn’t really understand the difference between an expression map and a playback technique.

Marks in the score (articulations and Playing Techniques) are connected to Playback Techniques (this connection is made in the definition of the Playing Technique)
The Playback Techniques (sometimes in combination) are used by the Expression Map to send the right messages to the VST (key switches, CC messages) to trigger changes in VST sounds.
So you use shift-P (playing techniques) to mark the score (eg. shift-P con sord), the con sord playing technique will trigger some kind of muted playback technique and the expression map will send the appropriate message to the VST to trigger a muted sound.
Generally only trill, glissando and arpeggio will playback (perhaps with some of the jazz ornaments). Ornaments (shift-O) are not connected to the Expression Map they are programmed in Dorico.
Shift-D is for dynamics. The Expression map will show (for each entry) whether it will send a velocity or a cc for that particular articulation.
I’m not sure what capabilities there are in Dorico SE to set up Expression Maps, playing/playback techniques. But I guess they are quite limited.

after trying to understand I see that the key switches are triggered sometimes by ornemements (rip, scoop) sometimes by playing techniques (tongued, bucket) and sometimes dynamics (hairpins, crescendo, etc…). And I understood my mistacke. Expression map are dedicated to all instruments and I tried with my solo trompette to trigger Marcato but it’s not a key switches on my trumpet. Anyway thank you for your answer. And I think Steinberg should think about creating some tutorial about playing techniques, expression map from scratches with a vitual instrument.
