I’ve been working with Dorico 5 for quite some time with only a few seldom crashes. Now Dorico suddenly freezes every 5 min or so. This happens even without opening any project, i.e. just starting Dorico and leaving it open. Any idea? I’m on MacBook pro with Ventura.
Hi @JiKo , not according to the log files. The audio engine might be a bit unresponsive, but either Dorico itself nor the audio engine are crashing. At least there are no crash log files from Dorico or the audio engine contained.
So first thing I’d do is update to HALion Sonic 7.0.40, you have 7.0.20. It’s not a guarantee, but it could be that with that version your problem is already solved.
If it does not, please send new diagnostics. Thanks
Hi Ulf,
and thanks for your prompt reply. This is rather odd, I’ve used Dorico daily without any crashes and suddenly – I haven’t installed or changed anything – the crashing started today. I’ll try that and come back if the problem persists. Thanks!
Hi Ulf,
I updated Halion and reinstalled Dorico but unfortunately the problem is still there. I can use Dorico for a few minutes and then everything except the cursor freezes and then, eventually, Mac restarts by itself. This does not happen with any other programs I’m using. I also tried to use Dorico without any other program running simultaneously but that didn’t change anything, everything still freezes in a few minutes. Most recent diagnostics attached.
You wrote that “the audio engine might be a bit unresponsive”. At the present I don’t have any use for playback so if there would be a way to solve this by, for example, completely deleting the Halion / some instruments / or the like please let me know, for the time being that would be perfectly ok. Switching the playback off doesn’t help, I tried that as well.
Hi Ulf,
so far I’ve tried to just switch off the playback activation, delete all vst instruments and now tried also the Silence playback template. None of this helps, sooner or later Dorico freezes and I either have to force the computer off and restart again or Mac does it by itself.
Hm, there are no crash files in the diagnostics and the fact that the whole computer is going down is very suspicious. Normally an app can’t crash the computer to the ground, only kernel mode apps like device drivers can do that.
If you go in Dorico to Edit > Device Setup, what ASIO driver is selected there with you?
I selected the VB-cable and Dorico crashed to the ground instantly. Diagnostics attached.
I don’t have use for the VB-cable at the moment and so I can remove that if needed.
