Dorico to read expression/percussion maps from VSTi

Cubase is able to import expression maps from a VSTi which can then be imported into Dorico. However, that is not a solution for Dorico users who don’t have Cubase.

Is there any chance that Dorico might be blessed with the ability to import expression maps and percussion maps directly from aVSTi? Also, an ability to make adjustments for various library’s choice of standard middle C would be needed.

Making percussion maps and expression maps for Dorico consumes a disproportionate amount of time which I’d rather use making music.

Has this question been asked previously? Is it something that Steinberg is working on? A separate app which provides a “Wizard” for extracting the maps from sample libraries for import into Dorico would be enough to satisfy users while a direct import feature is developed for Dorico.

Any thoughts?

It can be a solution for Dorico users who don’t have Cubase, if you download an expression map that someone else made in Cubase you should be able to load it in Dorico.

With MIDI 2.0 there are “Orchestral Articulation Profiles” already part of the standard where the articulation gets passed in the note-on message with standard ID numbers for staccato, pizzicato, tremolo, col legno, etc., so when Dorico supports this and when sample libraries support it, we should get correct playback of all articulations without needing to make expression maps at all.
