Hi, new to Dorico. How is it possible to start Dorico without having the iLok with all my plugin licenses on the computer? I often do notation on my laptop without audio editing, so the iLok stays at home on the desktop computer. But of course I have all the audio VST plug-ins installed, but I only need them in the DAW when I need them, so I have the iLok with me. Without iLok present Dorico fails to start audio engine. Best regards and thanks
Welcome to the forum, @TWeigelt. Unfortunately there’s no way at present to specify VST 3 plug-ins that shouldn’t be loaded, so you would need to actively move them out of /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3
before starting Dorico. (I’m assuming you’re on Mac because the majority of users are, but if you’re on Windows the same advice applies, only the folder location is different.)
No, I’m working on PC, Windows 11 Pro. It would be cool to have an Startup-option without loading VST3- and VST2-Plugins. Or, if licenses are missing possibility to skip further scanning for licenses. At the moment I even have to restart the computer to exit the scannig loop.
You will indeed need to move the VST3 plug-ins out of those locations on Windows as well. The locations are described here:
We know it would be helpful to be able to block specific VST3 plug-ins from loading, but part of the problem there is that you’d need to be able to start the software to configure which plug-ins should be blocked, and of course you’d have to start the software and scan the plug-ins in order to tell it that it shouldn’t scan them again in future…
Cubase has a Safe start mode:
Procedure
- Quit Cubase.
- Launch Cubase, and hold down Ctrl/Cmd-Alt-Shift.
- In the Plug-Ins section of the Safe Start Mode dialog, activate Deactivate all third party plug-ins.
- Click OK.
Result
Only Steinberg plug-ins are available after startup, and third party plug-ins are temporarily disabled.
Perhaps something to consider for Dorico?
That would be great!
If you host all your iLok-protected plugins in VE Pro, then you can run Dorico without loading the plugins by not starting the VE Pro Server app. It acts just like it is disconnected from the server. This is one of the best reasons (there are many others) to use VE Pro as a plugin host.
It’s a good chance to leave a feature request here to help cases of such:
- User-specified VST3 blacklist.
If this feature is available, a user can just blacklist any VST plugin that bugs Dorico’s startup on his / her computer.
Did you actually read the post you’re replying to, @ShikiSuen?
I only read the first one, but my suggestion is still valid.
To my experience, some iLok plugins just bug the host from booting until the license is accessible (whether on USB dongle or iLok Cloud or computer-based iLok).
This at least reduces the needs of physically relocating the VST3 plugins that bugs Dorico from booting when having lack of licenses’ access.
You missed the part where the audio engine wasn’t loading. Not something you could ignore or access a black listing screen is what he means. It is in the first post.
Can you move it to an I loc cloud account where it might be easier to share or transfer if you forget it at the office? That might be the least steps and give you full functionality.
