Dorico Won't Load Sounds for Certain Instruments

Dear Dorico Team,

After installing Dorico Pro 4.3 on my new PC, I am experiencing playback issues that I never encountered with any previous version of Dorico on my old PC. For certain instruments (including Drum Set, Harp, Contrabassoon, Bass Trombone, Marimba and Banjo), HALion Sonic doesn’t load the corresponding sounds automatically. I have already tried the following steps to fix the problem:

  • The menu item “Load sounds for unassigned instruments”
  • Reapply the default “HSSE+HSO” playback template
  • Remove all sound content from the Library Manager, uninstall Dorico and HALion Sonic, delete the Steinberg folders in AppData, and then reinstall everything from scratch

Unfortunately, none of these attempts have been successful. I can, however, load the sounds manually, which resolves the issue, but this is a lot of extra work and not at all what I expect from using an “advanced music notation system”, especially considering it worked perfectly fine for years. To me, it seems like the necessary sounds are installed on my machine, but I can’t be certain without a list of all the instrument sounds that should be included with a fresh installation.

  • Is there a way I can verify that all sounds are installed correctly? In my HALion instrument editor there are a total of 1546 sounds available.
  • Also, is there a way to inspect the default playback template to ensure that every instrument is assigned to the correct sound?

I’ve also attached a screenshot of my Library Manager but I would be happy to provide any additional details or logs if necessary.

Thank you for your help!
