I am just strating to use Dorico. I have wide experince on Sibelius. I would like to understand how I can effective benefit the massive work which I first have to do to create expression maps and templates of my many VST-instruments. I have not managed to figured out how I can for examble combine different playback templates handy way to have good start point for next project. I normally use many different libraries. It is too comblicate to do all different compinations for hand to have good start point for next project. How I can benefit of previous work best way for comming projects?
You might start by looking through this thread, which includes many expression maps people have shared as well as some helpful guidance:
Thank you very much. I shall read/ study that through. Mean while I already found small + sign to save end point configuration of all vst and midi instruments at same time not only for single instruments. That help to get better work flow also.
Thank you very much.
Iâm assuming that youâve already become comfortable with using Dorico for notation?
I would only recommend worrying about customizing playback once youâve got Note Entry, Engraving and Layout under your belt.
Itâs very easy to combine different Endpoints into a Playback Template: and I have a âspareâ template which I use to test different groups of samples, by changing the Endpoints around.
I do now my first expression maps for my VST-libraries. What I can do if there is no proper âBase Switchesâ for articulation of my VST-library? Is there any workaroud?
Like Con Sorino I canât find. What I can do?
I need for examble Legato Rebowed (C0) and Legato Slurred (C#0). How I can trigger these articulatin in notation if there is no any graphic symbols?
You create a custom Playing technique (Library>Playing techniques) and connect it to a custom Playback technique (Library>Playback techniques). Then add that Playback technique as a switch in your Expression Map, and set the Keyswitch appropriately.
If all goes well, when you write your new playing technique on the score, Dorico will send the correct KS to the VST to trigger the patch you want.
It would be a good idea to study the built-in expression maps for Iconica Sketch or HSO and trace the connections.
Thank you. I will study soon :).
Hi Janus,
How I can write the âLegato Expressionâ on the score? Thatâs my the new âBase Switchâ.
I mean that do I have to use some special txt style?
Dorico interprets a slur as legato. There is also a playing technique (shift-P legato).
You can see which switches Dorico is applying at any point in your score by hovering over the Playing Techniques section of the Key EditorâŚ
Hi Janus,
I think that I found now the guite good solution thanks for your help. On Write mode one have to select âPlaying Techniqueâ icon on the right side icon column⌠There are different groups for playing tehniques. After each group is + sign where the story begins. By selecting ? mark one can find enough info to find solution. Thank you very much.
