Hey there, I’ve recently just downloaded the Dorico 5 pro free trial and every time I save it is crashing (comes up saying not responding) and I noticed I also got this message on occasion (unsure if it’s related but thought I’d include anyway). Hoping for some assistance, thanks!
If you set the Playback Template to “Silent” (via the Play menu), will the file save?
If so, the problem is likely with the audio engine.
Can you generate a Diagnostic Report (from the Help menu of the Hub, if necessary) and post it here?
Re: posting files…
Hi Derrek, thanks for your quick response! I just tried changing the playback template to ‘silent’ and then save but still no luck! I’ve attached my diagnostic report, hopefully that’ll help!

Welcome to the forum, @des.c.
The message you’re seeing from HALion Sonic about the trial is (or at least should be!) harmless. If you ultimately decide to get a permanent license for Dorico, you won’t see this message once you are running with a permanent license. In the meantime, because HALion Sonic is a free product, you can get a permanent license for HALion Sonic, which should also stop this message from appearing.
Scroll down and click the Download for free button.
As for your apparent crashes, I’m afraid there are no crash dumps in the diagnostics you’ve uploaded. Is it possible that rather than Dorico crashing, it is actually hanging, e.g. the window goes white and eventually Windows tells you that the application has stopped responding?
Hi @des.c ,
I also had a look at your diagnostics and actually there is one crash dump file of the audio engine, but it has size zero, so that is useless for us.
Looking at the audio engine logs, I can also see that most of the runs are incomplete and that the audio engine either freezes in or goes into an unresponsive state. This happens when opening a Dorico project and sending the plug-in data from the project file to the VST plug-in instances in the audio engine.
So we have to find out, is this problem only with one project file or with any project file. Please try it out by creating a new project from e.g. big band template. Then save it, close it, restart Dorico and load that project again.
Please create another diagnostics then and post here. Thanks
Hey guys, thanks so much for your help so far! It’s a new day and I opened it up again to try and it actually has let me save some files but it’s still crashing every once and a while. I’ve uploaded my diagnostics again hoping that you can still help?
Thanks heaps!
