Dotted notes Input problem

I am a new Dorico/former Finale user, and I’m working through Dorico’s input technique via the Help function.

Prior to the last upgrade (v5.1.81.2225) I was able to input dotted notes (half, quarter, etc.) with no problem. Now, however, no matter how I try to get a dotted note to stay dotted, when I do something else in the bar, it suddenly becomes the regular note tied to the note that the dot represents, e.g. a dotted quarter note = quarter note tied to an eighth note. I’ve tried to find a setting that controls this, but no luck. Help!

Welcome to the forum @Mark_Bentley

It’s almost certainly to do with your project settings. Could you upload one bars worth of project that contains this behaviour for us?

Hi @Mark_Bentley, the global options to customise the notation of note groups are in menu Library > Notation options > Note grouping.

If you want instead to change this behaviour on a case by case, you can use Force Duration: enter the first value (before the tie), press O(letter) to force the displayed duration of what you just entered, then extend the note with the shortcut Shift+Option(Alt)+right arrow, or choose a value from the left panel, or with the numbers (double-click for dotted notes values)

Thank you, Christian! I changed several options in the Library as you suggested, and it seems to be behaving correctly!
