You’ve actually got duplicated lyrics in the original Finale file, so it’s not surprising that the XML describes it, and Dorico duly preserves it.
The question is: how did this happen, and how best to quickly delete the spares.
I have no idea how I eded up with duplicate lyrics. How did you get them offset from one another?
I generally enter lyrics into the lyric window and activate click assignment then do an option click to enter all of the lyrics at once. The Prelude is so simple it’s hard to see how anything could have gone wrong. One vocalist. Lyrics entered in the Lyrics window in verse 1, verse 2, verse 3 and verse 4.
If I look very hard at the Finale version, and I mean HARD, there are spots where it looks like the lyrics are just a little bit bold.
Looking at the mxl file, it looks like only verse 2 has the duplication. So at least I know now that not all lyrics are duplicated.
Oh. I see. You just clicked on the topmost lyric and dragged it.
Also, I option+shift clicked to add lyrics in click assignment mode.
I am experimenting in Finale and I can get lyrics entered one on top of the other by entering lyrics, going back to the lyrics window and selecting the first syllable in the verse, then doing the option+shift click at the note where the verse starts.
I’m not sure what would have led me to do anything like that in this simple song. I could see doing something like this accidentally in a song with multiple vocalists singing the same lyric over a number of measures where I could accidentally click on a note in a staff that already had lyrics entered, but for a single singer? Well, I did it somehow, and more than once. Or maybe some versions of Finale did it for me.
