Down or up an Octave for a note

I’m new to Dorico but have invested four full days learning it. I was fairly proficient with Musescore but at that time I left it they didn’t have a serious iPad app. I’m also a retired Windows programmer.

I’m surprised that this is called a finished release because I’ve had so many freezes, shut downs and dysfunctional features with it. As usual with large apps projects, the documentation hasn’t kept up.

I’m not complaining because nothing has been catastrophic . . . .yet. Plus I know these programmers must be first class with what they’ve accomplished to date. .

My latest struggle is finding or building my own keyboard shortcut for Octave Up or Octave Down for notes. For me, this was essential in Musescore and there doesn’t seem to be one for Dorico, that I can find. The create you own keyboard shortcut flat doesn’t work, I’m using a newer powerful iPad, Magic Keyboard. Using stepwise Up/Down on nearly every new note input is a pain. I must confess I never worked anywhere where fly out menus were released that were dead,

Another possibility is I recently install 18,2 plus the Apple Intelligence. Maybe the crew hasn’t gotten to debugging that. I’m dying to buy the best I can find and money isn’ t a big concern. Sadly, Dorico has to step up a bit before they land me as a customer.

Is it any different if I subscribe?? I’m pretty close to doing that just to find out.

Cmd+Opt+up or down arrow is the default key command to move notes by an octave.

If you want to change the key command for this function, does this work?

If you have an external keyboard, Cmd-Opt-up/down arrows should transpose by octaves, in addition to using the on-screen Edit Notes Overlay.

@mikesbeal as the author of Dorico’s documentation, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused by the iPad’s version not having a fully up-to-date manual. I have recently been putting a fair amount of time into getting it caught up, and expect to be able to publish current documentation for the iPad version imminently.

I have a generation six iPad with a magic keys. Command plus option is a built-in Apple shortcut key and will not work In this app on my iPad. I have tried every combination you can think of to get that function working, but it is not. Also, the preference dialogue, Create key shortcuts, does not work. If it works on yours, I’m not sure what the difference is.

By the way, I am not dissing this application. I want it to work so badly I can taste it. But it does not work. Lots of screen freezes, shut downs, dysfunctional features. It could be because I’m running the 18.2 OS version with AI.

When it does work, it’s very sweet.

I didn’t know this. Which functions (outside of Dorico) are these used for?

The links I posted were from the iPad manual and so I’m not sure what the difference is either.

Thank you. I do see that function working. I will give it a try first opportunity…
