DownMix Exporting Atmos mixes

I expect this topic has been discussed before, but I’m having trouble finding information about this.

I’ve been working in a 9.1.4 room and in ATMOS, the project I’m working on has 5.1 deliverables - I believe I’m doing outputs correctly by going into the Project/ADM authoring/Setup Assistant panel and selecting my output format - then checking the box “add MainMix channel with renderer” - then I see a new output channel populate with the renderer on it - with the correct downmixing from the Atmos renderer.

The part I don’t quite understand is when you want to switch back to (for instance) Native 9.1.4 Atmos - you have to do the same thing and check the box “add MainMix channel with renderer” therefore adding a new 9.1.4 Output channel - correct?

During the course of a longer project, generating WIPs along the way, you end up adding lots of output channels - I notice that if you just move the renderer plugin once you have all of the output configurations you want - it does not pass audio, telling me the ADM Authoring tool is doing more then just creating the correct channel configuration.

Do I have this right?? – I’m just looking for confirmation that I understand correctly - I assume you can delete the extra outputs as you go, and if I understand correctly once you move to a different output configuration the other one is essentially dead and can’t be revived. – thank you felixx

Seeing if anybody out there can throw me a bone on this – Maybe I’m completely off base - that would be good to know too - thank you!

You want to output 5.1 as deliverables: Am I getting you right?

In the Nuendo ADM authoring panel under settings, go to the trim and downmix editor to make any adjustments you might want for 5.1 downmix. In the VST plugin Dolby Trim and Downmix Window switch to 5.1 (from 9.1.4).

File export ADM after the 5.1 is as you want it.

Creating a channel-based downmix

The Renderer can also create a channel-based, downmix version of the object-based mix. In the Renderer panel, choose the surround (or stereo) format to which you want to downmix your project. In the Export Audio Mixdown window, select the channel containing the Renderer plug-in and use the Split Channels option. This will produce the correct number of audio files for your downmix, plus a number of files with no audio you can ignore.

Sorry if this is not what you are after.
