When I drag a wav file from Halion 7 to an audio track in Pro Tools 2025, PT throws an assertion and the program freezes. Looking at the logs, it seems that it can’t find the file. The file path in the logs starts with vstsound://{path to wav file}
Is this a problem with Halion or PT?
Which is it? A vstsound file or a WAV file?
vstsound files are monolithic library files, are not usable as WAVs, and are usually copyright protected.
If you drag something from a library in the Media Bay into the project window (thereby creating an audio track) Cubase will copy a WAV file to the projects Audio folder. You can use that file.
I’m not sure what the file actually is. I have Halion 7 open in PT and I have the media section open on the right side, which is showing the audio files I can drop into Halion.
If I drag that same file onto an audio track in Pro Tools, it appears like an audio file while dragging, but as soon as you drop it, PT throws an assertion. The path does point to a .wav file, but vstsound is also present in the path.
OK, I misunderstood you, I just assumed you were using Cubase - doh!
But what I said about vstsound files still applies. vstsound files (which is what most of HALion’s libraries are) are archive-style files.
You can’t copy them from HALion to anywhere else except to Cubase’s project window. Then Cubase extracts the WAVs from the archive.
