Drawing event volume and automation curves - use of Ctrl and Alt keys

Hi!
Why for drawing velocity curves on audio clips we have to hold Ctrl key and for selection those curve points we have to hold Alt key while in all other similar situations in automation lanes we are used to use quite opposite - for draving curves we hold Alt key and for drawing selection area we hold Ctrl key?

Hello,
I have changed the title so that it uses common Cubase lingo. (velocity curve → event volume curve).

AFAIK this is not the case, at least not in C14. You don’t need modifier keys for the event volume curve. Which version of Cubase are you referring to and what tool are you using?

This has to do to with the fact that you use different tools. For the event volume curve you needs to use the drawing tool, while for automation you most likely use the Select too. If you use the Drawing tool there, too, the behaviour will be more similiar between automation curves and event volume curves.

TL DR: Different tools, different usage.

Thank you for your response. The question was - why it’s reversed while the target actions are the same. This question mostly is addressed to developers, not forum moderators and users, but I’m glad we have discussion
