Drum Clipping on Nelly Furtado - Say It Right

Hey guys,

Does anyone know how to create the kind of kick drum clipping/overdrive heard on the track: “Say It Right” - Nelly Furtado

What kind of plugins/settings do you think were used?
Would the effect have been created on the channel insert, Group insert or at Mastering?

I think one of three things:

  1. Digital clipping - just overdrive the kick channel

  2. An added sample - some other sound triggered by the kick track (midi)

  3. The characteristic of that particular kick - even though the song starts with a similar kick, this could be a variation
