Drum kit input with MIDI keyboard

When using a MIDI keyboard to input instruments in a drum (percussion) kit, I am choosing “Use percussion map” in Dorico preferences as recommended in the Operation Manual.

When I input (for example) a hand clap (note D#2) I hear the correct sound, but on playback Dorico plays a crash cymbal, which is the sound assigned to an A (above the staff) in Dorico’s default Percussion Kit map.

How is it possible to get Dorico to play back the same sound (in a percussion kit) that is input from a MIDI keyboard using the standard General MIDI drum map?

As far as your playback, what playback template have you set? Did you assign a percussion kit to the player? A cut down file would help us to help you without a lot of guesswork!

(Off Topic, slightly related): Hmmm…

This gives me an idea that I might try to play with. I recently set up a virtual MIDI keyboard on TouchOSC with a USB connected iPad. I think I might be able to set up something similar with buttons arranged like a “standard” (yeah I know — no such thing!) drum set so that I can tap the snare, floor tom, kick drum, etc., and have it drop the note properly on the staff. (Now, if I can get it to display a graphic instead of a box, circle, etc. ….)

and some screen shots:

Could it be that a General MIDI drum “player” (that is, a Dorico player that recognizes and plays back instruments in the GM map) has to be created (from scratch) in the “Edit Percussion Kit” screen in Setup Mode?
