@superblonde I gues that is possible, but I don’t see an advantage to be honest and the result will be a bit messy I think because you can’t remove the consolidated rests I think and they are quit big.
@Derrek That really depends on what you want to do. I made CD booklets with only Designer but you need good photos because the editing of pixels is limited compared to Affinity Photo I think. But you can deliver PDF for print.
If I had to choose between the 3 apps I would take Designer but it is personal. The suite is not for nothing a suite. I’m very happy with it. I don’t need it very often but I can do everything I want. There is no subscription. For me the whole suite is a good deal.
Designer is the most useful for editing PDFs out of Dorico. You can manipulate individual elements, e.g. staff lines, noteheads, etc.
It’s also good for making SVGs if you want to create graphics for importing into Dorico.
Publisher is capable DTP package, and you can incorporate PDFs from Dorico within larger documents very easily. See my post here:
Photo is very good for photo and bitmap editing.
The three apps together have a ‘synergy’ (dread word), so that you can do photo editing of an image in Publisher as if you were in Affinity Photo, without leaving the Publisher app.
I’d say they have about 75% of the functionality of the Adobe equivalents (and the missing 25% is towards the rarer end of the feature set); and you can buy the whole lot “for keeps” at a fraction of the cost of renting Creative Cash Cow.
For me personally, it is publisher by a country mile.
It is like indesign (better, in some ways). I use it to make graphical edits that Dorico just cannot do yet. You can directly edit every bit of the pdf.
“Play X times” would be such a great, native feature to have in Dorico. Although any skilled drummer can read 2, 4, 8, 24, etc. bars of repeat on sight, this feature would not only make a part easier to read, but it would also require less page turns and less management of parts (digital or printed) while playing.
A great feature request and I hope it gets developed.
