Cubase 14’s Drum Machine currently lacks an integrated function for finding missing samples, which is essential when dealing with moved projects or relocated sample files (e.g. after switching to a new external SSD). Unfortunately, the only option available is to manually search for and replace the missing samples, which can be time consuming and inefficient. I haven’t found a reliable workaround for this problem either. It’s a limitation that many users point out, hoping for an improvement in future updates. Has anyone else found a more efficient solution or workaround?
With the current first version, the only approach I know is having pretty good workflow discipline.
For example:
- only grab samples that won’t be moved, and/or
- copy used samples to project folder, and/or
- make a muted audio track with copies of each of the used samples in an orderly sequence, which would allow reloading the drum machine if needed, and/or
- “print” drum track to audio when taking a break from or archiving project (this is what professionals and experienced enthusiasts do for all tracks with plugins anyway - since plugins may also be unavailable or incompatible in the future)
yeah I ran into the same problem
I’ve ran into the same issue. Moving a project from my laptop to my desktop machine.
It seems that when missing samples are manually replaced any custom parameter modulation that was manually added to the pattern sequencer e.g. like pitch modulation is lost in the process!
I really hope there’s gonna be a quick fix as in groove agent for the next cubase update. I don’t wanna go through hundreds, if not thousands of drum samples whenever I moved a folder.
More people should click the ‘vote’ button at the top left next to the header topic.
Or someone from steinberg should comment or look at this,
It sounds like ‘find missing samples’ should’ve been a “standard” function;
Not having it seems to cause not so nice effects;
When you use Drum Machine, you need to use the computer you started to compose on on as the location you always need to go back to continue or finish your song,
unless you are willing to spend time, while you are in creativity mode and want to continue on a different computer, searching for the samples (that you organized in one folder with sub folders) and copy them to a usb, load them up on the other computer, start up the project and load the samples pad by pad by pad by pad and hope that by the time you’re finished you still have that idea that you had when you wanted to continue your project
When you use an external ssd for your samples.
Drum machine will always look for that one external ssd even if you have lost, broken or forgotten your external ssd at a different location, but have the samples archived on your computer or backed up to another available external ssd,
unless you are willing to spend time while you are in creativity mode searching for the samples (that you organized in one folder with sub folders) on your computer or backup and load the samples pad by pad by pad by pad etc,…
and when you have done that and now want to continue your project on a different computer, you’ll have to do the same thing again.
And don’t move your samples to another folder and forget about it, unless you are willing to spend time while you are in creativity mode etc etc etc,…
And don’t forget to write down the settings of your pads on a piece of paper, because when you find the missing sample and load it on the pad, the previous pad settings are gone.
@EyeShak If the OP @devarni tagged this thread as a feature request chances are increased that this request is heard. You can also start a feature request on your own if you like
Honestly I had to first find out how to add a tag for a feature request to find out @Devarni forgot to add a feature request tag;)
So I posted a feature request, thanks for pointing it out!
I’m just running into this issue for the first time as I migrated to a new laptop. The drum machine was a relatively new feature that I haven’t used much (but am struggling with one project at the moment)–if I had used it sufficiently I would be horrified to find this out. Especially because for my particular project, the start point is not necessarily the beginning of the sample, but when I reload the sample, it defaults back to the start of the audio file. Why!?! Now my samples aren’t lining up in time (i.e. I use the same sample for multiple points within the same sample) This would be extremely frustrating if I had many projects and I’m a bit scared to use it now because of this. We need this addressed! Thanks
Same issue here. New computer and I have no way of opening all of my project correctly, after using the internal drum machine heavily instead of Battery.
