I’m trying to get a drum roll. Adding a tremolo seems to be one method, but I can’t get it to work with the Groove Agent SE Drum set - I just get repeated notes. However I can get a drum roll by using the Iconica Sketch Marching Snare Drum by adding a 3 or 4 slash tremolo. But the volume is very low even at FFFF or tweaking the velocities. Also I tried to upload my file but the forum is telling me it’s too big (it’s 4.3M, but has practically no music in it). So…
- Is there any way to get a drum roll on the Groove Agent SE Drum set?
- Is there any way to increase the volume (a lot!!) on the Iconica Sketch Marching snare?
- How do I show you my file when it is too big for the forum?
Try not to post the same question in multiple threads, Steve. I’ve now seen your second post before your first, and have ended up asking you for more information in that thread, when you’ve already provided it here. You need only post your question in one place: somebody (even if not from the development team) will certainly read it and answer if they can help.
- I don’t believe the Groove Agent SE kit includes sampled rolls.
- In Iconica Sketch, the patch that is loaded for a snare drum is the general orchestral percussion patch, Percussion Map. In general, hits are controlled by velocity, while rolls are controlled by MIDI CC 1. This is all set up automatically for you, provided you are using one of the standard Dorico playback templates. If you find the levels too low, you can use louder dynamics (e.g. ffffff!), and of course you can boost the output of that channel in the Mixer.
- If you have access to a cloud provider like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc., you can upload the file there and then post a link to that location here on the forum.
Thanks - I’ll stay in this post per your advice. I’ve uploaded the file here. For unknown reasons it is now about half the size. I’ve added FFFF and raised themixer slider to max, and the volume is still low - can’t complete with the drum set at all. I suppose I can turn everything else down, but then I have to crank up my audio interface so much that any external sound will blow my ears off!

If you open the full Mixer window, or expand the lower zone Mixer’s height such that you can see the upper section, where you can add insert effects. In one of the insert slots for the snare drum output, add a maximizer plug-in (Steinberg > Dynamics > Maximizer) and dial it up as much as you find it necessary.
