Drums: Midi Mapping oddity (using AD2 VST)?

MacOS Mac Studio M2
Dorico SE 5: Version 5.1.51.2153 (Aug 6 2024)
Dorico 5 AudioEngine Version 5.6.41.124

I have create a Drum Map to be used with AD2 VST.
Snare drum has 4 mappings: Open hit, RimShot, Cross-Stick, Ghost Note. (see pic Drum Midi Map)

Issues I’m having:

  1. the Playback Technique for Ghost Note is labeled as Side Stick and cannot be changed in Editing Noteheads. (see pics Edit Noteheads -1 and Edit Noteheads-2)

  2. In Write mode, the snare drum midi assignments do not correct with the Percussion Map i created ? I’m looking at the AD2 VST midi monitor with each note selected to determine the midi note selected on the staff.

I hope this is a clear description of what issue(s) i have. Any help would be appreciated very much.

Check in the Track Inspector on the left-hand side of Play mode that your custom percussion map is correctly assigned for the drum kit that is playing back through AD2.

@dspreadbury Hi attached pic shows AD2. Looks correct.

That certainly does look OK. Can you attach the project itself in which you’ve got your percussion kit and percussion map set up, so I can take a look?

@dspreadbury thankx for taking a look Daniel

Your Side stick definition in Edit Percussion Playing Techniques for the snare drum instrument has two problems: it looks the same as the Natural one (since you can’t include parentheses around the notehead in the definition here), and it also defines a combination of playback techniques, i.e. both Ghost note and Side stick.

However, there’s no single entry in the percussion map that defines both of these playback techniques, so Dorico can’t find an appropriate entry.

You also don’t have an entry in the percussion map for the Natural technique on the snare drum.

hmmm, ok I need to understand more about setting up percussion maps.

aaah now I see, attached pic ( A ) didn’t realize had to define. In (B), for some reason couldn’t get just Ghost note previously. Possibly because (A) wasn’t set.

Thankx for you time Daniel.
