Duplex Printing misfiring with Canon LBP223

I have a Canon laser printer LBP223 (EU model name).

Printing from Dorico 6.2 with Duplex Printing set to ‘One side only’. Unless I am misunderstanding something, that should mean that each sheet should come out of the printer with one music page and one blank page. Upon hitting Print, though, the piece is printed recto-verso (or duplex), with each sheet containing two music pages.

This Mac is on macOS Sequoia and cannot go on Tahoe, but Dorico is up to date (6.2).

Is this printer specific? In any case, why is Dorico not doing what its interface says it should do? If I use the System Dialog, then the printer follows my instructions, that is, no duplex printing.

I have browsed several posts from the past years but the proposed ‘solutions’ include changing settings globally from macOS, or installing extra drivers, which I am just not going to do since the printer is working fine with other software. If the interface of a software says “print one side only”, shouldn’t it do as advertised, without requiring external aid?

Thank you for your help.

Dorico relies on the Qt framework to talk to the printer, so an error here is not strictly Dorico’s fault. (Though it is of course annoying and should be fixed by someone.)

I guess that’s a Pandora’s box, then!

Did the threads you found, mention exporting as PDF and using Apple Preview (or other) to print from, where you can specify (and have) one-sided pages? or have you tried this?

That’s what I usually do, but this was another computer in the family and it was such a quick and small project that it felt innocent enough to just print from the software.

Printing from a PDF viewer always succeeds in following settings.

Same issue here with the Canon MG3560S. A solution that always works for me is shown in the screenshot.

Does this thread or this thread solve your problem?

When Dorico sets Duplex to OFF, the print stream sends NO configuration data about the duplex state. Some printer models interpret this as “don’t duplex”; and some printer models interpret this as “use the default setting”.

There are lots of threads about this, as it’s been longstanding problem. The easiest fix is to set your printer not to duplex by default, and then use print presets in other program to set duplexing.

I see what you did there…
