On this step are you creating a new Project from the Template where you saved your configuration, which should retain your Inputs & Outputs; or are you just starting from scratch in which case you’ll get a generic set of Ins & Outs?
If I’m not mistaken (?) only the stereo ones have two entries and the point is giving you access to child-buses when expanding the ones with the triangle next to them. In other words click on the one without a triangle if you just want to route into the stereo path “as stereo”, and select one of the child-buses (“Left” or “Right”) if you want to route your signal to only one of them instead.
For each stereo out bus there should be two entries: One is for the bus as a stereo bus, the other one lets you select individual outs of that bus.
I’d say this is like it is for everybody and by design.
Could you post an additional screenshot, showing the Studio > Audio Connections > Outputs panel, with all the items fully expanded (using the + button on the top right of the window) ?
Since it has been explained and I understand its purpose now. Maybe a better way of displaying it that is less messy could be implemented. Like selecting the the one with the arrow (parent) selects L/R, then you can expand to select either L or R. Or a toggle to turn it off.
I think that the culprit is rather to be found in the driver direction, or is it a MacOS thing ? On my end, I can’t get any duplicate in the audio outputs routing list, no matter how I set output busses from the available hardware ones.
