Refining the mix of a song I created long ago. Some midi tracks were duplicated. I couldn’t figure out why there was an unwanted program change in the middle of the song, till I found one of the dupes had the changes, but not the original. since the original shows no program changes, I though I could just change the midi channel of the dupe from 2 to 3, and then the original would not change. but it did and I see both dupes changed their channel to 3. I wonder why a dupe can have program changes that the other 2 lack, yet changing its channel affects them. so it is still partially a dupe. How can I make its program changes or edits affect only it - no longer a dupe?
The tracks programs were originally done on a Memorymoog which I no longer have and so the changes to the reassigned PK2 are unpredicatable, nothing like what they were originally and it has gotten so complicated adding program changes - a whole other problem.
If you have 2 tracks with the same MIDI Channel, both of them are sending data to the given MIDI Channel. So even if you have a MIDI Message at one of the track, both of them are “merged” to the same channel, so you will “hear” it.
This I understand. What I don’t is why I can’t change one of the track’s from 2 to 3 without changing all. So they are partially locked or duped though only one has the program changes.
Thanks. The tracks were linked. Is there any way to see where program changes are in the main window, where you can see the volume under tracks? I know when a track is double clicked to open it, you can see the program changes, but not as a number, just the height, which is pretty useless.
You can see the very 1st Program Change in the Inspector.
You mean, if you double-click the MIDI Part, the Editor opens. If you want to see the exact number, it’s better to open the List Editor. You can even filter it so that all MIDI Notes and MIDI CCs are hidden, so you can find the Program Change Messages quickly.
Thanks. I was doing that, but it would be ideal if you could drop a program chain in the main window underneath as with velocity, using the program chain number and not like when a track is opened and it is just the height with no number.
