Long-time Finale user switching to Dorico. I’ve done 4 arrangements now and I really like it, but I have a lot to learn. Might even like it better than Finale. It certainly has some features that make arranging much easier.
We usually use a Tuba for Bass in my group, but it would be nice to easily be able to convert the Tuba to a Bass part for subs. Is it better to create a separate line in the score for bass and just hide it but print the part? I wouldn’t want to raise the octave, print, and then change it back….What is the best way to handle this?
If the best way is to create a separate Bass part, is there an easy way to duplicate the Tuba part exactly and just raise it an octave as a whole?
Thanks - I am not sure if it is different but the version I downloaded by switching from Finale is v5. I can duplicate the layout but…not sure what to do after that. I still just see the Tuba part under players. How do I change the octave of the new layout?
“Best” might be a matter of preference, but all the parts don’t have to be in the score, so by not including them in the score layout they are effectively hidden. You can still see and write/ copy to them in galley mode, or I have sometimes had a composers score and a conductor’s score which doesn’t have certain things. You could have several different ones, like a vocal score if that happened to make sense, you just add a new layout to the project and click the check boxes for whatever you want to include.
Thanks -I think I figured it out. I made another layout (Sorry Still Learning the terminology here) and was able to transpose it so it shows up an octave. I changed the name of the layout and it changed the instrument name on the page, which is great, Seems like it is doing what I think will work.
