During playback, why do recorded articulations of each track get overwritten by newest recorded ones

Hello, I’m using Cubase Pro 14 with Vienna Synchron Player Surround. I record an articulation, i.e. legato. Later in the melody I have to switch to another articulation, i.e. staccato, and record it. When I play back from the beginning, every note plays staccato, even the ones, to which I had assigned legato. Now, I can change the articulation to legato during playback, and switch to staccato. But, imagine trying to do this for 100 tracks simultaneously during playback. It’s humanly impossible. Why does Cubase not retain the articulations in the order that they were recorded? Why are the articulations controllable from the player during playback? How can I stop recorded articulation from being overwritten by newly added articulations? Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

What kind of MIDI Messages do you send? MIDI Ntes or MIDI CCs?

Do you record in the Project window or in the Key Editor?

Hello,

Thank you for your response. As you can tell I’m new to the world of DAWs. I record in the Project window. The reason why the articulations were not being recorded was because I was changing the articulations from the Vienna Synchron Player. I tried changing them using the assigned keys on my keyboard, and now the articulations are being recorded. I assume I was not sending MIDI CCs when changing articulations from the Player.

Hi,

You are right. The changes made in the plug-in’s window don’t send data back to the track.
