E-licensor Error: Your System Finger Print is not Valid Anymore

I’ve just started getting an e-licensor error when loading projects in Cubase 15. I’ve not changed anything about my system since yesterday when it worked fine. I’ve tried re-installing the latest version of e-licensor control but it returns multiple server connection errors when performing the standard maintenance, also when ‘run as admin’.

I’m not sure what else I can try. These are the two error messages.

That means you still use some products that require the eLicenser. Any instruments or expansions that you have not upgraded?

Of course it returns errors, because the eLicenser servers are shutdown since May 2025. So there is no server that has maintenance information anymore.

The problem is that you have a Soft eLicenser, as shown in the screenshots, and something in your machine hard- or software has changed in a way that it invalidates your eLicenser.

The Soft eLicenser is simply some data stored somewhere on your machine, containing some kind of encrypted data, based on the hardware you had when installing the eLicenser.

Ah thanks, yeah I vaguely remember the server shutdown. Here’s what I have in my e-licensor control. Everything in ‘my licenses’ is also shown on the USB key. I can’t see anything on the soft e-licensor tab.

Interesting, I vaguely remember that Vienna Symphonic Library had the license stored in the eLicenser.

So what you should do is, first of all have a look in your Steinberg Online Profile for any voucher that allows you to upgrade a product to Steinberg Licensing. Regarding VSL, as far as I know they have switched to iLok before the eLicenser shutdown and there is some kind of conversion process to move your licenses over.

How that works? You need to ask VSL

You can delete or move or back up by renemaing the soft eleicencer to elic.bak. It is at C:\ProgramData\Syncrosoft. Then the error will disapear. Your elicencer dongle will remain working.

And indeed you can get ilok licences for the VSL stuff you own but as long as your dongle is working there is no absolute need.

I did have a couple of vouchers for vouchers but not for anything I can ever remember using so I’ll skip. Turns out I already have the VSL licenses on my Ilok as well so no problem there. Think I can probably just unplug the e-licensor and uninstall control.

Ah thanks, I think I’ve got all my licenses from the elicensor control on other things now so maybe I can just delete it and take the usb key out.
