With the increased number of users, the flat-format forum has become unreadable to me. All the messages are at the same level and in the same list, and I’m lost each time I try to check if there is something that I might be interested into.
And, as far as I remember, I’ve always found something very interesting in the forum. I’ve got tons of useful hints and information here.
At present, it would take too much to go through each thread, and try to understand if I should check it or not. Titles are not always that self-explanatory. And they are really a lot.
I would really love if there was a further subdivision in sub-forums, so that one could just skip the topics one is not interested into, and only check the messages in the sub-folders that are more interesting when browsing.
You can mute a topic that does not interest you and you will get no more notifications…
(but of course that would also mute any later change of direction in the discussion that might interest you)
Well Dorico is already a Category in this Disourse instance. Discourse does allow you to have sub-categories. But somebody would have to create and assign them. Given there is an unlimited number of potential sub-categories this is clearly infeasible, which is why we don’t have that.
And it’s not really flat. What you call a message is a ‘topic’ in Discourse parlance, and all the replies pertaining to it are under that topic, and so, isolated to that topic. That’s not a flat structure. It’s perhaps that they are not threaded exactly like a mailer that you miss.
I will agree that people really do need to learn how to put informative titles for new topics. So many are just useless like ‘Dorico problem’ or similarly useless. And then the people who say ‘no sound’ or ‘file does not open’ and give no context whatsoever (a bugbear of mine).
