Easiest Way to Add a Part Layout That's Not in the Score?

That’s what @asherber suggested and what I’ve been doing originally as well. I just didn’t know if there was a better way.

I changed the baseline shift of the accidentals in the settings you told me to change, but the accidental is shifting down. What am I doing? Currently the accidental is too high for my liking.

Never mind. I fixed that issue.

You will first have to select the new layout in the right panel (the new one, that you want to work on).
In the main big window you can also select that new layout from the top list, so you can see the effect of your clef and transposition overrides.
(You won’t see the Score - which is the Full Score by definition - just the new part layout).

There is a sub- and superscript switch.

I know that! But thanks for the help!

I am just making sure, we use the term score in Dorico’s sense.
Anyway the clef and transposition overrides will only apply to the selected (new) layout, not the Full Score.
I am sure you can prove this by sending the project file or a screenshot, where this is happening.

So, I got the vertical positioning of the accidental where I want it. Now, there’s too much space between the “B” and the accidental. Is there a way to move the accidental closer to the “B”?

Make sure, you don’t have extra spaces in the name:

These are my music character settings:

It’s the font. The kerning of Finale Maestro Text is not very good. Consider to use a more suitable font.

I guess I’ll have to edit the part layouts that have an accidental. I appreciate your help, though!

I’ll just use the accidental glyph and go from there.

One down, but many more to go. This is how I end up doing it with the Finale Maestro Text font.

If it helps, or matters, I’m trying to match Hal Leonard’s marching band score and part layouts. The closest music font to the one they use is Finale Maestro.

So, even after using Dorico for almost 2 years now, I don’t know if the rastral size I use for the score or the parts are good. Can somebody please give me a yay or nay please? If nay, please tell me good rastral sizes for both the score and the parts. I’ve included a screenshot of an example score and an example part from Hal Leonard looks like along with my project file.

It depends on the number of bars. As big and clearly laid out as possible.

As a concert band conductor I hate landscape format scores. While marching you don’t need a score anyway and during rehearsals the landscape format is inconvenient.

If you search the forum for Marching Band Template, you will find a file that might be of help – I believe that person also was trying to match Hal Leonard’s house style. Maybe you could have a look at their solution.

At most I’m thinking 100 bars, if that. Yes, I know for the individual parts, if I even have close to 100 bars, would be on two pages. Which is fine! I’m mainly looking for ease of readability. The band directors I arrange for use the score for outside rehearsals and inside rehearsals.

Also, at least in my mind, if a marching band instructor didn’t need a score, then why would it come with the set when they order a piece from JWPepper or Hal Leonard?
