I’m editing data converted from Finale in Dorico, and I have some CC11 data. Is this generated by Dorico? Is there a way to change it to not include dynamic markings? Of course, I can overwrite it with the line tool, but I’d like to be able to select and lift the existing data. Is this possible?
Does the expression map for this instrument/VST use CC11 for anything? If so, then there will be CC11 data, most likely corresponding to dynamics.
What’s your goal? What is CC11 controlling?
Unless you imported MIDI from Finale, the data must have been created by Dorico (XML files contain no CC# data)
I understand that cc11 is used to add inflection, such as crescendo. Is that wrong? If dynamics are dynamic symbols, then changing the corresponding dynamic symbol should also change cc11. I don’t know which one to check in detail.
As said, it depends entirely upon the characteristics of the VST instrument you are using. CCs (of any number) are just MIDI instructions that “a value is changing”. What that value means is up to the VST instrument.
If the Expression Map is set to send CC11 for dynamics, then Dorico will translate dynamics into CC11 values.
If Dorico is generating CC11 values that correspond to dynamics, then I would ask why you want to change it? (And if so, whether that could be achieved in the Expression map or other playback settings.)
What I want to change is not to change cc11 to a different cc, but rather its value. In other words, dynamics are not absolute, and if I want to make a forte a little louder, I want to increase or decrease it while taking advantage of the cc11 change that Dorico has set. I’m writing this using a translation app. Did I get it across?
Do you want to do this globally, or are you wanting to adjust individual forte markings?
It’s very easy to adjust how Dorico transfers dynamics onto particular values, using the Dynamics Curve in Playback Options (or the Overrides in Expression Maps).
If you want to adjust some dynamics, then you’ll have to do that in the Key Editor. There is a Transform tool that lets you modify the selected data.
What I want to do is mainly adjust the change in crescendo and decrescendo, so if I can adjust the curve, that should work. As expected from Dorico, I knew it could do it. In Sibelius, you could only adjust the curve. In Dorico, you can ultimately do it directly in the Key Editor, which is great!
