Edit-In-Place MIDI, should there be focus for in-place editor for key-commands?

Edit-In-Place seems a bit disconnected and un-updated from the direction the rest of the program has gone.

Key Commands I often use for MIDI don’t really work well for the in place editor, and so this is the question?

Should In-Place-Editor be able to have focus when the user click into it?
