Edit Keyswitch velocity with Playing Techniques

Is it possible to edit Playing Techniques that correspond to keyswitches in the Expression Map to adjust the velocity for the keyswitch?

If I have a Playing Technique named Trill that is tied to a Base or Add-On switch named TrillSwitch. Is there a way to specify the Trill in measure 2 has a keyswitch with a velocity of 10 and the Trill in measure 11 has a keyswitch with a velocity of 35?

So in a nutshell, I want to set the velocity of the keyswitch when I enter a Playing Technique.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Yes, the value can be input together with the key switch (127 below).

But that means I have to go into the Expression Map dialog. I want to make the change quickly as I’m inputting notes. Also, the Expression Map dialog appears to set the value once, I’ll need a different value for each note to get the VSTi to play correctly. Also, what if I want something like a crescendo but it alters the velocity of notes rather than sending a series of CC messages? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I guess I don’t understand. What is it that velocity 10 and velocity 35 do? Are there 127 different values for TrillSwitch or only 2 (or just a few)?

If it’s only just a few, create base switches (add-ons don’t have volume controllers). For the exact velocity value, set Volume Controller to velocity and min and max to the value you want for each. So TrillSwitch1 min=10, max=10 etc.

I don’t understand either. With this guitar VSTinstrument, the velocity of the Keyswitch affects the sound, i.e. C#0 is a vibrato switch, if the velocity is 1-5, I get a very slight vibrato, if it’s 120-127 it’s a crazy whammy bar effect, and there a several steps in between. So I’m hoping there’s a way to set the velocity with each Playing Technique symbol when I place it, rather than have to go to play mode and set it there. If the Playing Technique is connected to a Keyswitch, I want to right-click it and select Velocity, set it and forget. But it looks like I get a single velocity value for all the “vibrato” Playing Techniques, but the OEM’s idea was to avoid creating different Playing Techniques for each range/effect in the Velocity Map of the VSTi. Thanks much.

Velocity is an attribute of every midi “note on” message unlike other midi CC.. so even if you set it using the keyswitch, it would not matter because it would immediately be changed by each real note entered. I think the intent of the VST is that you enter “vibrato mode” so to speak, and it varies according to how you play the real notes on a midi keyboard. ( Or adjust the velocity curve for the notes in the key editor)

It may be possible to configure the guitar VST to use a midi CC rather than velocity - which would let a playing technique work more like what you are expecting - but I’m pretty sure you’d want to play or adjust the curve anyway. I’m envisioning a whammy bar playing technique without adjusting the curve as you play would sound about as blocky as Minecraft looks

Thanks, unfortunately not all the articulations/techniques have assigned CCs. I agree, that would’ve been the way to do it.
