Edit Strings and Tuning dialog per FLOW

Is there a way to set different tunings for different FLOWS?

I have a guitar book with 9 pieces in 9 flows. On the 9th flow, I use a D tuning. I know how to set the tuning for D so TAB works correctly. When I add this piece for the 9th flow, it of course defaults to E tuning. When I change the tuning highlighting JUST the 9th flow, change tuning changes ALL flows. Any way around this?

Thanks

No - you could use a separate instrument/player for each tuning but still show them all in the same layout.

This?
—Add instrument to player
—Add new guitar named “Drop D”
—Rename the main guitar to be blank
—In the last flow, only the Drop D guitar shows and is labeled and shows with correct tuning

Thanks!

Why are you renaming them?

If it’s to show no staff labels, there’s a Layout Option for that, on the Staff Labels page.

I renamed Guitar to show blank show it would not redundantly show “GUITAR” on every page of a guitar book. I renamed the DROP-D show it shows that change on the last page. Doing that means I don’t have to create some text indicating Drop-D.

I am looking now at Staff labels and do not see how to do it your way. What am I to check or uncheck?

The picture you show has the staff labels set not to be shown (neither in first nor subsequent systems). That is the very first option at the top left. So whatever the names of the instruments, they won’t show. Just make sure the Layout name suits your needs — you can change it directly in the right panel of Setup mode, no need for this to follow the Player’s name that doesn’t need either to follow the Instruments’ names, although it is the default behavior

If you don’t want to see the part name at the top of p2 onwards, edit the Default page template to remove or edit the running header.

I do not want to show part names—that’s why it’s set this way. It’s a guitar book–it’ all guitar.

My question was:
I have a guitar part that at one point is Guitar with standard tuning in one flow, and an added part that is Drop–D in another flow. Each flow puts the “Gtr.” or Drop–D label above the part. Just like switching between tenor sax and flute—Dorico smartly labels each change. I don’t need every flow in a guitar book to be labeled “Gtr.”—it’s redundant a space consuming. I need only the label on the one flow in Drop–D. My solution was to delete the Guitar name entirely and rename the 2nd guitar, “Drop–D”. Then the Drop–D shows in the one flow. Lillie suggested some option other than that in Staff Labels page. I do no see that option.

I’m happy with results the way I did it, just making sure I understand if there were other options.

Yes, I have the page set-up just the way I want. The question is about switching between what ends up being a double: Like a tenor sax switching to flute and back, or trumpet to flugelhorn and back—I’d want those indicators in the chart. Here is a case where I do not want indicators for Guitar, only one for Drop–D. So my solution was to have guitar 1 name blank, and the guitar 2 as Drop–D. This works perfectly.
