Many thanks for sending the logs over. On the face of it, it appears that the license is being requested correctly by Dorico, and the License Engine is providing the requested license.
Could I trouble you to please find, zip up and attach two more folders for me?
Firstly, the Dorico 4 folder in /Users/your-username/Library/Application Support/Steinberg, and secondly the Dorico 4 AudioEngine folder in /Users/your-username/Library/Preferences.
I’ve got to head to bed now, but I will take a further look as soon as I can. Thanks.
Not a problem at all. Especially, if that might help to fix problems that other users may have in the future.
There are the files. Steinberg.zip (161.7 KB) Dorico 4 AudioEngine.zip (13.1 KB)
I did reinstall of basically anything related to audio: Cubase 12 Pro (just in case), Presonus Universal control (I am using Presonus AudioBox), iLok Licence Manager (just in case), Gig Performer (just in case), Waves plugins (just in case), Wavelab (just in case), eLicenser Control Center (just in case), my Neural DSP plugins (just in case).
Dorico still does not start. I am uninstalling it, as too much time it consumed already.
I have no idea what might be wrong with your program as I am, myself, a newbie. But, what popped up in my head was when I read you’re on holiday and the internet sucks! Perhaps that is the crux of the problem - is it possible that what ever internet you’re connected to is somehow restricting some crucial aspect of the program starting?
Hi Dough, I truly hope that is not the case. The software was registered, and shall not “call home”
Internet here is good enough for webpages and email (as you see, I am able to read and post messages here). It just works deadly slow (like modem in 90’s)…
It’s certainly worth disabling your computer’s internet connection and then seeing if Dorico will run. If it will then run, leave it open - it’ll continue running even if you enable your internet connection.
There was certainly an issue with internet connections with login portals (e.g. free Wi-Fi where you have to provide an email address) in the early days of the new licensing system, but to the best of my knowledge these have been fixed.
Certainly. Certainly did that all before posting here. I am sorry, but I already removed Dorico (permanently).
Yet - out of pure curiosity I am waiting for official answer from Steinberg. Maybe I will learn something.
I do hope that if and when you get licensing issues with Sibelius, the support there is as stellar as here. I quite recently had problems on several occasions – one cause was forgetting to switch off a VPN as Sibelius (at any rate my version of it) seems not to like a change of IP address. There was also an issue after a minor system hardware change. None of these things ever caused problems with Dorico. I guess you’ve just been unlucky!
As a software developer, you’ll know that sometimes, no matter how good the software, something will go wrong on somebody’s setup. You’ll find internet posts about Photoshop, Word, Logic, Sibelius or any software you care to choose ‘not working’ for somebody.
For the vast majority of people, Dorico loads perfectly fine.
Hopefully, the team will be able to track down the problem on your computer. But this exaggerated sense of outrage and veiled insults just because you’ve encountered a problem does indeed make you sound ridiculous.
For any strange reason, after I did the offline activation, Dorico started again.
Still - the big question is:
why software, that was properly installed, activated and used, out of a sudden did stop working. And then - started after “offline activation” )which actually was online activation, as I did it on the same computer I was using it.
Thank you, Juergen, ich werde nie ueber so etwas glauben
Ben, calm down. You are insulting me imposing I insulted anyone here.
Don’t be pricky fanboy, be a grown up man. Use your brain, think. And calm down.
Or - simply stay quiet, if you have nothing constructive to say in the subject matter. (oh, sorry, in case you are a “thinking differently” - talk freely, whatever you want)
People, who are not good enough go to other companies that are in need of hiring “professionals” - that looks like the Dorico team that left Avid.
…I think it’s not unreasonable to consider that an insult. And I am the product manager for Dorico, its lead designer, and I was also the product manager and lead designer for Sibelius, and I have nearly 25 years’ experience working on music notation software, so I’m certainly one of the people that you are impugning when you say that the Dorico team is “not good enough to go to other companies that are in need of hiring ‘professionals’”. Are you not insulting me, then?
No matter – even if you insult me, I will still try to help you. And I have passed on your logs to a colleague who can read the runes of the Steinberg Licensing system to ask whether he can say what might be going on.
Once the license has been activated, Steinberg Activation Manager doesn’t need to call home to keep the license active.
However, there are some workflows which trigger Steinberg Activation Manager to query for any new licenses which can then block the operation of the underlying engine if there are network connectivity issues. It sounds like this could be related to this behaviour. We are already working on a fix for this which will be released in a future update.
I’m glad to hear that the offline activation has worked - and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. Given the issue has been solved in this case and we’re reasonably sure of the underlying cause, I will close this thread now.
