Efficiency of (Vocal) Effects in VST Live: Automation vs. Multiple Parts

Hi everyone,

I’m using VST Live for vocals effects (Harmony Voices, Doubling, Delay etc) and wondering which approach is more resource-efficient,.

Would it be better to use a single part and automate the effects (turning them on/off as needed), or should I use multiple parts with pre-configured effects and switch between them?

Which method consumes less CPU/RAM and ensures stable performance in a live setting? Does anyone have experience or best practices to share?

Thanks for your insights!

Best regards,

Tim

Global (or song based… if you want to make completely different things/song) + Automation

You will love it!

Thank you Flakmus. Novice as I am on VSTLV (just joined November last year), I too took the route of global layers with automation to switch between the layers’ instruments (four layers in all) - Haha!, but that was because I could not figure out how to use a single layer in a song and be able to change instruments as parts change along- perhaps I could be assisted there, as I am told it takes less CPU toll.

Sorry for name misspelling - Fkalmus
