Elementary, my dear Watson! Stems up on same axis

My ignorance compels me to ask:
How do I get the two notes in the orange box to have both stems up and share a stem (have their stems on the same axis)?

When I select them both and use the right mouse button to select “Force stem up”, the stems go up, but it looks like this:

The notes to the right of these recalcitrants already had “siamese stems”, i.e., they shared a stem, so that method worked for them.

You need to make sure that they are in the same voice. Select the lower one and press V until it works.

I’d read up on Voices (creating, and switching: and the shortcuts for them), as it’s very useful and very fundamental.

I really should not be messing with these scores, but …

I should read up on voices (I did learn some about them, and I’ve probably done this before).
