Since I no longer use my iLock dongle to run Cubase, it is time to uninstall these two software applications (eLicenser Control Center and Activation) on my laptops?
ilock dongle is not for Steinberg.
Just uninstall the eLicenser Control Center and nothing else.
What do you have license-wise on the dongle? Out of curiosity.
I have Cubendo14 on Win11 but I still run LOTS of the elicenser Cubendos too.
I have the Cubase Essentials 14 with Groove Agent and bought the Jazz Essentials pack for Groove Agent, but I don’t have anything else that would use the dongle. I don’t even know where the darn thing is anymore. In the past Cubase totally stopped working for 6 months because of the ‘DCOM malfunction’ and I switched to running the iLock dongle for that reason, but there would be no reason to have those two applications if Cubase 14 no longer needs them.
In this case, why would I need the eLicenser License Activation - does Cubase Essentials 14 still use this without using the dongle?
Cubase 14 does not use the eLicenser anymore (and it never used iLok at all), but there might be a product that you have licensed, but not updated to Steinberg Licensing. In that case the eLicenser is still required.
You can check that in your mySteinberg online profile, click on the products link and check if there are products that show the text “eLicenser” as shown here.
The Activation Manager is the new licensing tool for the Steinberg Licensing, so that has to stay.
