Is my eLicensor USB thumbdrive dead and if so what do I do ?
I’ve tried it on two PCs, same result. A red light comes on when plugged in and remains. And I don’t see it as a drive.
I need it to run Cubase 7, which I used some time ago, on a resource challenged old Stiinkpad.
Do I get another one and if so how ?
And how do I get it loaded with my Cubase 7 license ? I am currently on Cubase 14 Pro so do I assume correctly that includes Cubase 7.
Any advice would be appreciated.
buy a new dongle from Amazon, register it to your Steinberg-registered-dongles info on your account area, contact SB support to move your licenses from dongle A to B. Test new dongle B.
I am not yet convinced the USB dongel is broken. You did not write whether Cubase can be started or not.
The dongle having a steady red light and not showing up as a drive is tiotally normal.
Oh WOW guys ! Sorry I got side-tracked for awhile. I was certain my dongle was bad with the red light and surprised since thumb drives are pretty robust. I will immediately try what you all have suggested ! Dongles run around $50, so not worth it considering I have CB 14 running fine.
My CB 7 and 8 were running fine with my Dongle but on another computer no longer around. That’s why I was surprised by the red light and inability to get CB 8 running and didn’t know I had to install something on it.
Assuming it works, with eLicenser shutting down next question is how do I insure when it goes away that my downlevel Cubases (CB 7, 8) will continue to work ? Is there something I need to do to transfer my dongle license to the new dongle-free authorization ?
The eLicenser Server will be shutdown, but that does not affect your USB dongle. It will continue to work as long as the hardware is working and you do not lose it.
No, all releases from Cubase 11 and earlier will require the USB eLicenser. It is not possible to change tha.
