Hello again everyone,
First let me start by saying just how much I love this forum! I’ve NEVER said that before, but the experience I’ve had with the Dorico users and the responsiveness and expertise of the Dorico employees is just fantastic! I’ve even learned how to spell “verkochte!” (thanks @asherber). You all are just so helpful and encouraging. That’s something I have to point out and praise as an American looking at the next four years.
ANYWAY…
I think this is probably more of a feature suggestion at this point in time, but does anyone know if there is a way to make empty bars fully consolidate in individual parts when there’s a tempo change in the score? Look at the screen shot and you’ll see what I mean. I know the multi measure rests are being broken because of the attachment of a tempo change to a particular part of a particular measure. But man would it be nice in those parts that have nothing but rests in those measures to just see the relevant tempo changes without seeing individual empty bars.
Always happy to help out with a little Yiddish!
I’m not sure I understand. Are you saying you’d like to see an 8 bar rest between 129 and 137, with the rall. floating over it somewhere?
Yes @asherber that’s exactly it!
I don’t think there’s a good way to accomplish it. You’d probably have to do something like using system text instead of a tempo mark, placing it in the score at the rehearsal mark and then dragging it in Engrave mode to where you want it. Someone else may have a better idea.
But FWIW I’ll add that breaking multi-bar rests at tempo changes (and other markings) is very standard. It helps the players with rests make sense of what’s going on around them, and it lets the conductor ask the orchestra to start at the rall. before 137, for example. (Okay, in this case the rall. is just two bars before 137, but players can have more than 8 bars of rest and there can be more than one thing happening in that span.) As a conductor, I find it very disruptive if the information on the parts in front of the players doesn’t match the information in my score.
