Empty voices persisting in play mode

I’ve got a problem with empty voices persisting in Play Mode. There are no notes in three voices of cello in one particular flow, and yet they don’t disappear when I close and open the project. Is there something else other than notes that determines whether a voice exists or not? Is there a way of removing the empty voices? They are causing problems with NP4 playback as I now have 6 channels of cello (I need independent voice playback) and they don’t all get mapped to NPPE.

It might be relevant that this flow was imported to the project.

Hidden staves, even added staves (including divisi staves) that have since been deleted if they still had notes in them.

Thanks Derrek.

I can see that the additional voices are on staff (a) and staff (b). The first is always visible, the second is visible during divisi sections, so I don’t there are any additional staves hiding from view.

Dorico won’t automatically remove empty voices that belong to divisi staves. If you’ve got divisi staves that were created at some point but which are no longer in use anywhere in the flow, the only way to get rid of them is to create a new instrument and copy the music from the old to the new, then remove the old one.

Thanks Daniel.

An update on this question…

I managed to find a solution.

What I did was duplicate the flow, delete the instrument in the original flow, insert it there again, and then paste everything for the instrument from the duplicate flow, using paste special to put everything into upstem voice 1.

Very similar to Daniel’s suggestion, but it has an advantage in a multi-flow project because I don’t have to move all the music to the new instrument.
