starting point: I have condensing deactivated, and manual staff visibility activated to show flute 1&2 after they have been manually hidden previously:
good. that’s what I want it to look like.
if I now activate condensing, this happens:
flutes 1&2 are hidden. I don’t want that. so I go to the staff visibility dialog to set flute 1&2 to show:
press enter, and they are shown again. good. that’s what I want:
NOW, I deactivate condensing again. and flute 1 & 2 are not shown anymore: the staff visibility is changed without me having changed it
why does it do that? I have set flute 1&2 to be shown in both condensed and uncondensed mode, but it seems that only 1 option is possible. that’s extremely unintuitive. I want flute 1&2 to be shown all the time, because while im composing I’m switching between modes all the time and having staves that go invisible after I set them to be shown already is quite “dangerous”.
am I missing something here?

That seems like a bug, but I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will jump in later to explain what’s happening. Before then, though I’d suggest uploading the file itself so people can see exactly what’s happening and why.

As your screenshots show, the staves have different names with condensing on and off. Without condensing, the staves are “Flute 1” and “Flute 2”. With condensing, the staff is “Flute 1.2”. These are different things to Dorico.
Keep in mind that you’re hiding staves, not players.

here is a file similar to the situation: on page 1: flute 1&2 hidden. and on page 2 they are set to show again. that’s what I want.
if you now activate condensing, flute 1&2 stave is hidden on page 2 (bad, I want them to be shown).
so now you set flute 1&2 to show. it will be shown again (good), but going back to uncondensed, flute 1&2 staves are not shown anymore (bad).
if you then set flute 1&2 to show again, they are shown (back at the starting point).
and then this circle begins that in condensed they are not shown anymore. there seems to be no way to set show to both condensed and uncondensed staves at the same time
Even after taking into account the different staff names (which is why you need to explicitly hide the condensed staff after first turning on condensing), there does seem to be a bit of an inconsistency in terms of which staff visibility instructions are preserved when switching back and forth between condensed and uncondensed. I would expect them all to be preserved, for the appropriately named staves, regardless of which staves currently exist because of condensing. (The same way that notes on removed staves still exist.)

okay there is a possible solution: if you are in condensed mode and have set flute1&2 stave to show and press enter, so the window closes and then go in AGAIN, there suddenly also appears flute 1 and flute 2 as separate staves over and under flute1&2
they have not been there the first time I opened the window in condensed mode, so that’s the issue I had.
if you set these two to show as well, they will then also be shown in uncondensed mode automatically! problem solved.
is that intentional behaviour here? I think this can be done more intuitively maybe
