End hairpin in input

Hi,
when entering a slur I type S, enter the notes and then shift-S to end it.
But when I want to enter a hairpin, I type <, enter the notes and then what? If I type < again, it ends the hairpin but starts a new one.

I think this is the newbiest of all questions, but I couln’t find the answer.
