I believe the eighth rest is positioned too close to the beam in some bars. The rest doesn’t move until the beam slopes upward, bringing it slightly closer to the rest. For example, this can be seen in the second row, sixth measure.
Is there a parameter in Dorico that defines the minimum distance between a rest’s ‘foot’ and the beam?
I can easily move the rest in Engrave mode, but I thought of asking since Dorico does so many other (wonderful) things by default (or with parameters) without manual adjustment.
The rests colliding with the beams is a known bug (unwanted behavior?) that goes back years. Daniel stated in 2018 that those rests should move up a space, but unfortunately this has not been implemented yet.
There are some workarounds mentioned in this topic. One of them is to apply the Snap to staff line positions setting in Engraving options>Beams. Another is to go to Engraving Options > Notes > Stems > Default stem length and try smaller values.
Both will have as a side effect that those rests are pushed up, but I don’t like either of them because it means changing the outlook of your entire project to solve collisions that shouldn’t be there in the first place. So every update I’m hoping to find this fix in the version history.
