When I finish setting up Flow 1 and then edit Flow 2, the tempo of Flow 1 changes. What should I do in this case? Is there a way to edit Flow 2 without affecting Flow 1, since I’ve already finished setting up Flow 1?
Is there a way to pin a Flow that has already been completed?
Uploads are not allowed. Is it normal for the text in Flow 1 to become disorganized if I edit Flow 2 after finishing the setup in Flow 1? Does this affect everything starting from the first page?
After finishing Flow 1, is it possible to lock its layout so that editing Flow 2 doesn’t affect the vertical positioning of text and playing techniques in Flow 1?
It is not clear what you are talking about.
Are you working in Write Mode?
In Write Mode Dorico only receives the music input and musical changes you do yourself.
Or are you talking about Engrave Mode?
Yes you can lock the whole Layout (via the menu).
On a smaller level you can lock every frame - or even every system.
Does that mean the initial settings will remain unchanged? When I press “Lock,” is there an indication showing whether the changes have been applied or not?
It’s not a “status” as such; there’s no indication that it is on or off. All that happens is that System/Frame Breaks get added to the start of each system/frame.
It depends on what you mean by “settings”. If you change some options, you must know that only Notation Options can be different from one flow to another.
In Engrave mode, do I need to lock the layout in Flow 1, reset the layout in Flow 2, and then proceed? Or do I need to select “Lock Layout” again in Flow 2? I’m not sure how to prevent the flows from affecting each other.
@k.k if you share a screenshot or a project file that demonstrates what exactly you mean, we might be able to help you.
When you said “text becoming disorganized”, we can’t know for sure what you mean – it could be flow headings overlapping music? it could be text in the music appearing misaligned? In both cases, locking the layout (ie fixing bars into systems, and systems onto pages) might not make a difference.
What do you mean by “prevent flows from affecting each other” ? Because their musical content is separate, but where they end up on pages will impact where subsequent flows likewise end up on pages.
Please provide an actual concrete picture or project that shows the context that you’re talking about.
I’m not sure how to take a screenshot that shows Flow 1 changing while I’m working on Flow 2.
When working in Dorico, I’ve adjusted the vertical positions of tempo markings and other staff-attached items (such as instrument labels) in Flow 1. However, while editing Flow 2, I sometimes notice that the vertical placement of those items in Flow 1 has changed. This forces me to go back and recheck Flow 1.
I’m looking for a way to prevent the vertical positions of these items in Flow 1 from being affected when editing Flow 2.
The screenshot doesn’t have to show the change, just the content that you’re talking about!
There is a known issue about spacing sometimes appearing to change while you’re editing music, but this resets to normal if you save, close, and re-open the project. If you have steps that reliably do this, please share both the project and the steps that produce the issue for us to investigate.
