I really don’t understand how to use the layout/engraving mode options. If I select a change, click “Apply” and close, I almost NEVER see the changes in my document. What am I missing?
Hi @shorr.aaronj, is not clear to me to what are you referring to. In Title you wrote Engraving/Notation Options Menus: do you mean menu Library>Engraving Options and menu Library>Notation Options?
What do you mean with “layout/engraving mode options”?
Generally remember that:

Engraving Options (changes) will be applied globally to the whole Project.

Layout Options (changes) will be applied to the layout(s) that you have selected on the right side of the dialogue.

Notation Options (changes) will be applied to the flow(s) that you have selected on the right side of the dialogue.
Be sure you select the desired layout(s) or flow(s) (depending in which dialogue you are), before you change and apply some of the settings, otherwise they will be applied to the “wrong” layout or flow and of course you don’t see any change in the “desired” layout or flow.
If you can give an example with what you are trying to change, with the steps that you do, maybe we can help further.

This was one of the more difficult things for me to remember when transitioning to Dorico. This probably needs to be shared with every post about options in Engraving and Notation modes.
