Enharmonic Craziness on MIDI Import w/Dorico 5.0.20

I’m getting a problem that I’m seeing others report on a search of the forum. When I import a MIDI file, Dorico interprets some segments with the oddest enharmonic spellings. Tons of double sharps and double flats show up in the parts, and I know of no way to fix them other than to correct each note individually. Is there some import setting I’m missing that would prevent this from happening?

If you select all, Edit->Transpose and leave all settings as is but tick the “Avoid Double Accidentals” Option (or whatever it says there relatively down at the bottom of the dialog), you can at least get rid of all double accidentals quickly.

You can also try Write > Respell > Respell Notes Automatically for a selected passage.

I’m running Dorico 5 1 10.2081 and also experiencing this phenomenon.

The workaround recommendations from RobinHoffman and dspreadbury are good ones.

Can I also suggest unchecking the “Detect key signature if missing” option in the Imporing MIDI File/Import Options splash window during the process of importing/opening a midi file. See image.

This seems to improve things during the interpretation process, however there is still a chance you’ll need to adjust E#'s to Fnat or B#'s to Cnat once in score form.
